This post will help you decide what to wear to your tattoo appointment, depending on which part of your body is being tattooed.

First and foremost, wear something that you will be comfortable in! Any little comfort goes a long way when you’re under the needle. Stretchy fabrics really help if they need to be rolled up or pulled out of the way. It’s also important to wear something that you don’t mind getting stained as there is potential for stencil ink, tattoo pigment or blood to stain your clothing.

Lower arms: wear a t-shirt or a long sleeve that can be rolled past your elbow.

Full sleeves or upper arm: wear a tank top or a very loose t-shirt. When tattooing shoulders or full sleeves, it can be uncomfortable to roll a t-shirt sleeve up above the space needed to tattoo. It’s better to wear a tank top that you can drape the strap under your arm or a very loose fitting tshirt that can be rolled up.

Back: wear nothing OR

-wear a button up or zip up shirt that you can put on backwards, exposing the area to be tattooed and keeping the rest of you covered and warm.

Chest: wear nothing OR

-wear nothing with nipple stickers/covers OR

-wear a top that you can fit your arms through the collar so that you can tuck the shirt into a bra or it can be taped keeping you covered where needed OR

-a bathing suit top

Stomach: wear nothing OR

-wear a top that can be pulled up and taped (or tucked into a bra strap) exposing the area to be tattooed.

Butt: (for large pieces/ extension of back pieces) wear something that you can use to keep yourself covered by draping fabric over your front, (for small tattoos) wear a thong/bikini/or something that is comfortable enough to pull up and out of the way, that will stay put.

Hips: wear something like with a butt tattoo. You want to be able to cover yourself up while you lay on your side. So either something to drape over yourself or underwear with a small strap that can be either pulled upwards or downwards exposing the area to be tattooed.

Thighs and calves: wear shorts that are comfortable enough to roll up if needed.
